Dear Coaches and Organizers:

The 2018 York County Special Olympics Spring Games are right around the corner! We would like to take this opportunity to let you know that the torch is being passed and Noble (MSAD #60) will be organizing and hosting the event starting this year (with a lot of help from Dennis Dean and his crew of course!). As in previous years, the Spring Games will be held on the FIRST THURSDAY IN MAY. This year’s date is May 3rd, with a rain date of May 4th. Registration will be done on-line - the system is being updated and will be available NLT April 1st. For now, please be aware that when you register you will need each athlete’s times/distances from your training sessions when you complete the online form. We will advise you when the system is available.

 Registration and Coach Information:

1. The registration deadline is APRIL 21ST. Please comply – we expect over 400 athletes and need the time to arrange everything. 2. We do not collect or accept Athlete medical forms, but they ARE REQUIRED. This protects us all, most especially the athlete. You should forward a copy to SO Maine for file and keep a copy with you. 3. Coaches certification is not required, but highly recommended. Please refer questions about this to Ian at SO Maine (ianf@somaine.org or 879-0489). 4. Protective Behavior training and Concussion training ARE BOTH REQUIRED. These are easy to do on-line – just follow the links on our page to the coaches corner. Event site information The event will be held at NOBLE HIGH SCHOOL 1. There is ample parking at Noble High School. We will have signs posted on the day of the event directing you where to park. 2. You need to bring lunch, water, sunblock, etc. with you. 3. There will be a CONCESSION STAND so feel free to bring some extra cash for food and drinks! All proceeds will go to the Noble High School Exceptional Studies/Functional Life Skills program. 3. We are expecting record attendance! It will be a busy day! Please do your very best to have your athletes at their events on time and ready to go. Everyone working at the event is a volunteer, giving freely of their time to make this an enjoyable day – please cooperate with them, be respectful of them and most importantly – be sure to THANK THEM – the games would not happen without them. 4.Regarding weather, it’s Spring in Maine, the forecast changes every day. I want you to know however, that we do not take the change to a rain date lightly – we will only cancel and reschedule if the weather is extremely wet/cold or if field conditions or weather represent a safety hazard. We do not cancel for drizzle, fog, or a chilly damp day.
